Human Blood
The cell is the fundamental structural and functional unit of an organism. Human body comprises of different types of cells carrying out different kinds of functions. A group of cells forms the tissue and group of tissues form the organ. Different organs work together to develop an organism.
BLOOD: Blood is also a tissue as it comprises of various cells which help in various metabolic activities.
"Blood is termed as a FLUID CONNECTIVE TISSUE"
Why blood is called a fluid connective tissue?
  • As we all know that the blood exists in the liquid state, due to the presence of plasma in it. So, we call it as a fluid.
  • As blood runs throughout the body and connects all the organs with each other and helps in carrying out the metabolic activities with the help of the cells it contains. So, the blood is termed as connective tissue.
COMPONENTS OF BLOOD:
COMPONENTS OF BLOOD
1. Plasma:
Plasma forms the three forth portion of blood and helps blood to stay in liquid state .when we isolate the plasma from blood we can see that basically, its a yellowish liquid along with water plasma carries salts and enzymes.
Plasma
the primary function of plasma is to transport nutrients.proteins and hormones to the various body parts.
2. BLOOD CELLS:  Blood consists of various cells such as
  1. ERYTHROCYTES
  2. LEUCOCYTES
  3. THROMBOCYTES
ERYTHROCYTES: Generally these cells are known as RBC [Red Blood Cells].These are red in color due to the presence of a protein called hemoglobin (Hgb).  Hemoglobin helps in supplying oxygen to various parts of the body. RBC carries the oxygen from lungs to multiple body parts and brings carbon dioxide as waste from different body parts to the lungs.
ERYTHROCYTES:
ERYTHROCYTES:
LEUCOCYTES: Generally known as WBC (White Blood Cells). These are the cells of the immune system which protects the body from the harmful effect of foreign microorganisms such as a virus, bacteria, fungi, etc.
In the cells of WBC granule-like structures are present in the cytoplasm of cells. Based on the presence of these granules these WBCs are classified as granulocytes and agranulocytes.

  • Granulocytes: These are further classified as eosinophils, basophils, and neutrophils.
  • Agranulocytes: These are further classified as Lymphocytes and Monocytes.
THROMBOCYTES: These are nothing but blood platelets. These are fibrous cells which react at the site of an injury.

Whenever an injury occurs these cells rushes at the site of an injury and forms the network of fibers to close the wound and also helps in clotting of blood which protects the loss of blood from the body.
